As one of Korea’s 3 spirit mountains, Hallasan Mountain is located on the southernmost part of the Korean Peninsula,
and lays claim to the title of South Korea’s tallest mountain with the height of 1,950m above sea level. Home to all sorts of vegetation, the mountain possesses immense scientific value and is a veritable treasure trove of animals and plants, leading to the designation of Hallasan Mountain Natural Reserve as Natural Monument 182 on October 12, 1966. In fall, when everything is blanketed by a colorful display of flowers, the mountain covered with the red color of the fall foliage is truly a sight to behold, while the snow-covered mountain in the winter stands out as the view to surpass all views. A young volcanic mountain from the Quarternary Period of the Cenozoic Era, Hallasan Mountain was believed to have erupted 25,000 years ago, and the 360 or so volcanic cones surrounding the mountain present a unique view. Furthermore, the majestic figure of Hallasan Mountain rising from the middle of the mountain makes it appear as if it is carrying itself with a benevolent yet tenacious spirit.
Hallasan Mountain, you can experience warm, hot, cool, and cold at the same time. It is said that there are four seasons in one day: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
Hallasan Mountain can be seen from anywhere in Jeju Island, but the mountain form seen from different angles is different, and the impression of the mountain posture varies from person to person, and changes with the seasons. Not only that, even though the same trees, the same flowers and plants, the ones seen in Halla Mountain are somehow more unique.
There is a saying that “Jeju Island is Hallasan Mountain, and Hallasan Mountain is Jeju Island”. This is not only because Hallasan Mountain stands in the center of Jeju Island, but also because most of the tourists who come to Jeju Island come to conquer Hallasan Mountain. Everyone will be overwhelmed by its majesty. Hallasan Mountain, known as the “Mountain of God”, is usually as warm as a mother’s embrace, but sometimes it is tenacious and tenacious, just like the image of a Korean woman with the virtue of bearing humiliation.

Baengnokdam is located at the top of Hallasan Mountain. It is a crater of Hallasan Mountain. It is 600m long and 3km in circumference. Baengnokdam means the place where the immortals and the white deer play. There used to be a beautiful legend here: According to legend, the gods of Mount Hana were discovered by the Jade Emperor when they were peeking at the fairies taking a bath, so they were demoted as white deer to guard the place, so it was also named Baengnokdam.
The snow on the top of Hallasan Mountain does not melt until early summer, and its unique scenery is not found in other places. Climb to the crater and turn around the port (about 4 kilometers), you can have a panoramic view of the whole island of Jeju, just like going around the island along the coast road.
